Peru to announce second anchovy season this week

The Ministry of Production will receive the biomass report from Imparpe Wednesday.

Peru’s Ministry of Production (Produce) is expected to announce the start of the anchovy fishing season and quota later this week, reports Andina.

Raul Perez-reyes, head of Produce, said he will receive a report from the Institute of the Sea (Imarpe) on Wednesday and that the start of the season and the allocated quota will be defined this week.

“We should be making a decision this week, Imarpe is handing us their report tomorrow [Nov. 7], and based on that we will make a decision on when the second anchovy fishing season will start.”

It is “very likely” that the season will begin with an exploratory fishing period, he said.
