Spain's Eroski introduces MSC frozen seafood range

With the new lines, MSC products will make up for 20% of the retailer's frozen seafood sales.

Spanish retailer Eroski will add Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified products to its frozen fish range, expanding its line of sustainably certified products beyond fresh counters.

The co-op recently launched a MSC-certified seafood range, and now has 11 references of frozen seafood products certified across all its stores.

In addition, the company will soon launch two MSC-certified cod references, it said.

Eroski is leading the MSC-certified fish offer in Spain. In 2017, it obtained MSC chain of custody certification for its fresh fish counters.

With the introduction of MSC frozen products it plans to reach 2,000 metric tons of MSC-certified fish sold a year by 2020.

After introducing the new hake and cod lines, Eroski expects MSC certified products will account for 20 percent of total frozen seafood sales.
