Marine Harvest's Ducktrap gets boost from new Canadian supply
Salmon of Eastern Canadian origin is a part of the Ducktrap mix for the first time following the Northern Harvest deal.
US smoked salmon company Ducktrap River of Maine's newly opened smokehouse has so far boosted the company's production capacity for cold-smoked salmon by around 10 percent this year over last year.
Ducktrap General Manager Don Cynewski told IntraFish the Marine Harvest-owned brand is now using salmon from newly acquired Eastern Canada salmon farmer Northern Harvest for its smoked products, which has helped boost capacity.
"We don't have the capacity restrictions we had last year, and the new facility is running great," he said. Salmon of Eastern Canadian origin is a new source for Ducktrap, which in the past has sourced its fish from Chile, Iceland, Norway and Scotland.

Ducktrap is also seeing success this year with wild sockeye salmon from Alaska, Cynewski said.
The new smokehouse will boost the company's production capacity for cold-smoked salmon by 75 percent in the next three to five years, Cynewski said.
